Philadelphia, PA

Stephen and I have driven through Philadelphia numerous times over the past two years.  Here is a recap of my Favorite hotel and a few cool restaurants.

The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

ritz outside

We almost always stay the Philadelphia Ritz Carlton.  Located at 10 Avenue of the Arts, the Ritz is housed in the beautifully historic Girard Trust Building (a former bank).  “This luxury hotel in Philadelphia’s Center City puts you right in the middle of the finest dining and shopping, as well as the city’s business district, while allowing you the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle by relaxing at our distinctive oasis.” – Ritz website

The location is truly in the heart of Philadelphia, walking distance to several great restaurants, bars, and sights.  This Ritz is a great place to start or end the night as well because it has an amazing lobby with truly hip vibe any night of the week.

I fell in love with the old décor and paintings of the lobby. The rooms are spacious, and the service is outstanding.  I can’t say enough how much I love this hotel!  Anytime you’re in Philly, this is the place to stay!

Pat’s King of Steaks

cheesesteak

Pat’s King of Steaks® was founded by Pat Olivieri in 1930. Pat had a modest hot-dog stand at the base of the famous Italian Market in South Philadelphia.

One day he decided to have something quite different for lunch, so he sent for some chopped meat from the butcher shop. He cooked the meat on his hot dog grill, placed the meat onto an Italian roll, and dressed it with some onions. Just as he went to take a bite, a cab driver who ate a hot dog everyday asked what he had there. Pat said that it was his lunch. The cabbie insisted that Pat make him one.

“Hey…..forget ’bout those hot dogs, you should sell these.” The steak sandwich was born. As the years passed, both employees and customers alike demanded change…cheese was added.

We’ve been to Pat’s twice.  Once, the first time Stephen took me to Philly, and once after a night out… And yes, we bought the Uber driver one as well.  Pat’s is directly across from Geno’s, the other famous cheesesteak place.

There’s something so wrong yet so right about a Cheesesteak.  Either way, it’s part of the Philly experience to try one so go ahead and indulge.

Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse Sports Bar

Stephen and I were in Philly on a Sunday in December when we woke up to a blizzard.  The Eagles were playing Detroit that day so I found us a sports bar, nabbed the last taxi still crazy enough to be driving, and we headed to the sports bar at about 5mph.

Best thing we did! The atmosphere was rocking, the food was delicious, and you haven’t experienced the true Eagles atmosphere until you’ve been in a bar with die-hard fans.

Tip: I highly recommend the award-winning wings!

The Dining Car & Market

the dining car

The Dining Car operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and offers a full service award-winning bakery.  It is located North of Philly and has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  This restaurant is special to my husband’s family because it was a favorite of his aunt who was a long time Philadelphia City Council Woman.

The food was delicious with big portions and the diner vibe.   If you’re in the mood for a truly good authentic Philly diner, this is the place for you.
