Kansas City

Kansas City

Let me preface this blog by saying Stephen had just taken me on a tour of a closed detention center that he was selling.  Yes, a closed PRISON!!!… It was just about the scariest place in which I have ever been…*shivering thinking about it*

So he decided, rightfully, that I needed some pampering after that. (And no I am not reviewing the prison….it was scary, that’s all I’ll say)…

Stephen researched and found that Kansas City had another of our favorite Autograph Collection hotels.  (I was too traumatized to do the research.)… The Raphael Hotel

The hotel though was absolutely beautiful! I can’t recommend it enough!

“Originally opened in 1928 as the Villa Serena Apartments, the Italian Renaissance Revival-style building was transformed into the elegant Raphael Hotel in 1975. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.”

We walked into a quaint lobby where it reminds of an elegant European hotel.  We got in the tiny little elevator to take us to our room and giggled at the charm of it all.

Our room was expansive with a gorgeous view of the river below and the Country Club Plaza.  The bed was one of the most comfortable beds upon which I have ever slept. I was so cozy comfy that I even ordered breakfast in bed just for me while Stephen worked the next morning.

That night though, Stephen took me for a very special dinner at Le Fou Frog.

Le Fou Frog is an upscale French restaurant in the River Market area of Kansas City.  The owners Mario and Barbara met in NYC when she took a job bartending in his restaurant to help support her acting career.  Barbara grew up in Kansas City so they came back here and opened Le Fou Frog….and Kansas City should be thankful that they did!

Wow! What a meal!  Starting with the soft lighting, the menu on the chalkboard, and not being able to tell if you are in New York, France, or still in Kansas City, you know you are in for a treat.  The soup, the escargot, the fish, the wagyu filet, there’s no way to go wrong.  It’s expensive but worth it! Highly romantic! Perfect for an anniversary or just a romantic night out.

Later that evening, we went to Chez on the Plaza, the restaurant inside The Raphael hotel, for drinks and reveled in the jazzy aura that the string trio successfully created.

It was an absolutely magical night, and I can’t wait to experience that hotel again.

Oh! And The Raphael just made Travel and Leisure’s Top 500 Hotels in the World!
