Grand Cayman
Ever since my Royal Caribbean days, I had dreamed of staying at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman. I remembered passing it on the way to the public beach and thinking how grand it looked.
Well, it definitely is grand, enchanting, and everything else I could have imagined.
When Stephen and I talked about getting married, we talked about doing something elegant where not a lot of fuss was made about us. (Second wedding for both of us.)
I told him how I had been fascinated with Grand Cayman since the age of 14. I had read a book that was set there, and it sounded like this beautiful exotic other world to me. (I am from land-locked Oklahoma.) Of course, once I started going there each week on the ships, I took it for granted, but at this point, I hadn’t been back since 2006 so the fantasy came back to me just like I was 14 all over again.
Stephen said book it, and two weeks later we got married on Seven Mile Beach.
The Ritz did everything to the nines. It was beyond anything I could ever dreamed.
The hotel is absolutely huge with one half sitting facing the beach, and the other half facing their world renowned Greg Norman designed golf course, Blue Tip. The amenities leave nothing to be desired complete with the restaurant Blue by Eric Ripert and a jewelry store where Stephen bought me another ring.
We arrived and were upgraded to a huge balcony ocean front room. It was plenty big enough to get ready with the stylist and do a photo shoot before the wedding.
We had arrived in what was the “rainy” season so the hotel was a bit quieter with most of the guests being couples celebrating anniversaries. Even though it was a little rainy, the ocean was still that gorgeous clear blue that I remembered.
I had worked with the Ritz wedding planner and she took care of everything from the flowers, the cake, the photographer, and the music to the candellight dinner on a private patio.
It was the epitome of romance. I’m actually crying while writing this blog.
During the wedding, the maid came in and sprinkled purple rose petals on the bed and floor and left swan-shaped towels on the bed forming a heart. The little touches like this made my dream wedding perfect.
If you are ever planning a trip to the Cayman Islands, the Ritz should be your first choice.
